first of all i would like to start off with i feel totally helpless. ive been trying for weeks to improve my english grade and its still a 50. i know you're think "o i don't try" "i don't study" etc. i do all my work and i study hard. my english teacher is so hard. she's the hardest teacher i've ever had. everyone talks about her. she's notorious for failing seniors.don't get me wrong, she's very helpful and extremely nice. she doesn't give an extreme amount of homework either. she has us read books sometimes and i can follow them pretty well. i just don't remember every detail. on the tests she asks a lot of detailed questions and i just don't remember any of it. i think my main problem is im kinda slow and i don't always have time to finish the tests. another thing is we don't have word banks either. i know your thinking thats elementary, but most of my teachers have trained me that way, and im still use to relying on it. if it wasn't methalogy i could probably remember most of the names.(greek methaology has some weird names) i don't know how to pass her class. i mean what can i do? i can't say i need help understanding a story, cuz how in the world is she suppose to help me? i know how to read. i just don't see how she can help me in that, but thats wat i do need help in, cuz i don't comprehend well.

Mythology IS hard, and it sounds to me like you are trying to commit too much to memory. I have a terrible memory too, and need to write things down. Do you take notes when she reads to you? You should. Write down an outline of the story, the characters' names, etc.

I don't know what a word bank is, but assuming it is like a vocabulary list, you can make up your own. Every time you hear a word you don't know, write it down (or write down what it sounds like). If you don't know how the word would be spelled, ask the teacher afterwards, then look each word up in the dictionary. You can use that to study from, and it will help your vocabulary tremendously in the long run.

OK.. first off, these are good questions and you should be asking them of your teacher even before you ask them here.

I will try to give you some ideas and some critiques.. but ultimately the process and the solution has to be yours. Bonus points for asking the question tho.. that takes cajones.

Ok.. first some observations. You text too much. Waaay too much. It shows in the way that you write your letters and notes and that immediately degrades your grades or appearance. It may be a short cut for spelling, but it weakens the points you are trying to make.

Next. Mythology: There are plenty of alternate sources for the various stories and tales of greek and roman gods. THey are actually pretty good all things considered once you get into the stories. For example the Iliad (Achiles journey home after Troy) is a damned good story, and has been made into a few movies.

Sometimes people READ but they do not 'hear' the words. So comprehension is lost. Try this trick and read it out loud to someone who will patiently listen without comment. That sometimes forces you to make it make sense. (understand that part?). It starts hard and slow but it gets easier fast.

Look for alternate sources of the same material. Books-on-tape is a great example. Someone reads TO YOU and you need just to listen. I bet your comprehension goes higher in that technique.

Spend some extra time.. dig out those old tests and re-read the assignments for one or two.. can you see the points you missed and maybe understand why you missed them?

.. bottom line ... try a different approach. You need a different way to see your assigment. Go ask the teacher to help you get that after all its her job and she is prob. good at it even if she is a tough grader.

Try taking notes while you read the assigned books, and make flash cards for mythology names. If you it is just that you don't understand what you read, you may need to be tested for a learning disability. If it is just that you don't remember what you read, try the note taking and flash cards. Make your own word bank--flash cards. Any words you don't know, make a flash card. Carry them with you and study them before school, before bed, after homework. The more your brain sees the words, the easier to remember. You are not stupid!! If nothing else helps, tell your parents--they should ask for a parent/teacher conference. Or talk to your teacher---that is what she is there for--to help and teach. Tell her you are having trouble.

You need to let her know that you are an audio learner; you retain more when you hear it rather than interpret it from reading. Share your concerns with her and request that she assist you with this matter. If you feel that she is not willing or helpful, speak with your superintendent. Share your concerns and tell them that this to you seems like a "No Student Left Behind" situation and you would like it resolved. Ask that if the questions continue in the fashion that they are that you have an audio copy of the required reading given to you to assist you with your needs and you would also like an oral test rather than written. You may have issues that you were unaware of and this could be the cause of some of your troubles. It is there teacher’s responsibility to pick up on these things and to assist you in your education. That’s why we call them teachers.

man english ain't that hard.

you know why we can speak our regional language fluently.

like try to use your english words in life,

use them when you talk even with friends,

even if they find funny.

like try to watch tv shows that use those words frequently.

if you cant see it on tv find such video on youtube or something.

its easy man.

we don't learn until we imply it in real life.
