Well, my teacher says it is his job to bring my grade down.

Most teachers give both. First the chapter tests and then from the chapter tests they make up the unit tests. Their reasoning is sound since the hope is that you LEARN, and giving the unit test will be a great review of the chapters you supposedly studied before. If and when you get to college, you will have semester (half year) exams that last from 1-3 hours. Be thankful your teacher is preparing you for what you will face in the future.
Now stop complaining and get to work studying for that unit test. You will do well!

Because Chapter test only assess what is in that chapter, for example... graphing quadratic equations. But a unit test assess your cumlative knowledge of the whole subject. For example, Quadratic Equations. this includes solving, graphing, domain, range and other issues for that one topic. It is sort of like a final exam for a particular topic.
....We do not give them to bring your grade down either. :)
