I struggle with due dates in school and with all this technology my teachers use, it's insanely hard to keep up with ANYTHING. I'm often left with missing assignments. One of my teachers assigns us excessive homework, up to 3 pieces a night and she clearly doesn't understand I have a life and other classes. So I asked her to unlock some assignments for me to complete, which she refused to do so. I should be allowed to turn in assignments late right? She sits and complains about me not doing so even though she locks the assignments even if your absent. She doesn't reply to emails or anything either. So, Are teachers allowed to NOT let you turn in an assignment late?

I know a lot of these answers are all saying that it is your responsibility to hand it in on time... but as a fellow high schooler ( I’m a junior) I know how difficult this is. It IS hard to stick to deadlines, especially when you’re given so much work!

If she doesn’t reply to your emails, maybe string it up with the principal. You could also talk to them about you struggling , and hopefully they could give you some support.

Unfortunately it probably is true that they won’t allow you to give it in late. Where I live (England) , if we don’t hand in our coursework on time then we have to go through a long process of appeal... just to get it looked at and marked! It truly sucks ://

Good luck for future assignments, try not to stress too much...you got this!! 😊😊

Friend the very purpose of the teacher assigning you homework is teach you about the real world when your boss tells you to do a late-night assignment in the real world and you don't do it you can't come in the next morning and say old boss I didn't do what you told me to and expect to not get fired. The teacher is establishing a pattern in your mind by giving you homework and assignments so that you will be able to work a job in real life and to keep one they're not doing these things to grade you on simply there is a purpose for doing this and I just told you what it is.

It's your responsibility to manage your time so that you complete your assignments on time. Why do you think you deserve special treatment? Have you considered the possibility that the classwork is too academically advanced for you?

Too bad. It's your responsibility to manage your assignments - not your teachers'.

Part of the point of school is to teach you discipline, time management, and personal responsibility.

Because in the real world, guess what? You'll still have to deal with assignments and deadlines. And if you think your teachers are being unreasonable, just wait until you miss a deadline from your clients, or your boss, or your bank. Yeah, getting an F pales in comparison when you can lose your job, or your house, or worse.

Absolutely. You will find that, in college, MOST teachers will not accept late assignments, and will not allow make-up exams.

You seem to be asking if you should be held to a different standard from everyone else. I do not see why you should. If you are asking if there is some universal law governing standards in classrooms, there is not.

Yes, your teacher has the right to accept or not accept late assignments, just as he ore she has the right to let you take or not take a make up test. The way things work when you're in school is this:

The teacher gives you an assignment and a due date.

You complete the assignment by the due date.

The teacher schedules an exam on a given date.

You show up and take the exam on the specified date.

Everyone else is able to follow this plan of action; why can't you??

Everyone else also has a life outside class, but they prioritize and get their work done.

Yes, teachers are allowed to NOT let you turn in assignments late.

If you are trying hard at you possibly can, and still can't do the work other students are doing, you need to be placed in a remedial education class. Talk to your parents and see if they can arrange the transfer.

Teachers are allowed to do whatever they want. If you know this is a difficult teacher, DO THE WORK for this class. Try to reason with other teachers if you have to shift stuff.

Yeah, she can. "I have a life outside class" isn't an excuse. Do your homework.

you need to get organized. Get a planner or a notebook and write down all assignments and when they are due. Stop going out every night and get focused. Stop making excuses for your failure and laziness.

It is not your teachers problem you failed to do your work on time and it is not fair to your classmates that did meet the deadline for you the class slouch to get extensions. You are no one special. Get over yourself and get it together

if you were working for an EMPLOYER on deadline, and you did not get your work done on time, the company could LOSE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS failing to live up to contracted dates, You WOULD LIKELY BE FIRED from the job. Best to learn now when you are in school that "other life" is less important than assignment, so DO IT ON TIME and lose the excuses--learn REAL LIFE NOW, while the penalties for not doing so are relatively small.
