I believe the current argument is regarding teaching Evolution (or creationism/ID) in Science Class, not in school. The reason to teach Evolution in Science Class would be that it's a scientifically based theory with testable and measurable components. Creationism/ID has no basis in Science and is simply an attempt to insert Religion into Science by force.
Attempts have been made by various religious groups to disguise Creationism as Science, with poor results (see Dover PA Board of Education). More info can be found here:

Why not ask why it should NOT be taught? In science class you learn about scientific theories. Macro-Evolution is a theory that was built upon multiple smaller theories (micro-evolution, survival of the fittest, adaptation, mutation)that can be hypothesized, studied, tested, and re-tested with results that repeatedly support previous findings.
Study embryo growth(there is a theory that states every embryo goes through the same evolutionary "steps" in utero. For example Human fetus have gill slits at one point) genetics and ecology.

For much the same reason astronomy, biology, chemistry and the other hard sciences are taught in school. Because they are essential to know in order to be a rational, thoughtful and productive citizen of the nation. There are unresolved questions in most fields of science, but teaching that something like the origin of the species is unknowable or mystical flies in the face of all the evidence which shows that it is indeed knowable and occurred in a predictable and logical pattern.

It is the mainstream scientific view of how life on earth evolved supported by almost all biologists. The evolutionary synthesis of Darwin's theory of evolution through natural selection and Mendelian heredity is the overwhelming view of scientists working in the area and is supported by fossil evidence, genetic and other research.
I have attached more links to help you develop your argument. Knock em dead in the debate.

Evolution should be taught in schools for the sole reason that it is the only theory to date that is backed by hard evidence.

Because it's true - unlike Creationism which is based on relgious belief. Nothing wrong with having a faith but it doesn't belong in a science class or a public school for that matter.

Yes! Because it is the only LOGICAL explination to how our existance was created. Why should we deny children the ablility to be educated about everything not let them choose what they want to believe and follow.
