I am writing the two questions here in Yahoo answers, please guys Help me fill these at the Earliest (ASAP) :-D. I,ll be very glad. I am looking forward and waiting. Thank you. Regards. :-)

Question #1.) What differences in student approach to English do you anticipate when working with students who speak a Latin or Germanic language versus students who speak Japanese, Chinese or Arabic?

Question # 2.) Describe strategies you will use in class to help you with your own spelling, if it´s a problem, like bringing a dictionary to class or writing down troublesome vocabulary in your lesson plan.

hi shalina, first of all good luck on your endeavours

ok Q1: you need to remember that English is a Germanic language so when teaching English to students who speak German can become somewhat simpler than teaching students from other backgrounds because many words in English have the same phonemes as the ones in German. For example /haus/ in German is /house/ in English, the word kindergarten for example is a German word meaning garden of children, and many other words have similar sounds but different spellings.

Similarly many words in English are derived from French and Spanish words, 2 languages which have their roots in Latin, for example non is a word we use English while at the same time it means 'no' in French.

Q2: using many visual aids will always help students out; posters, dialogue, etc. Having them practice online games to further improve their verbal and written skills are always a must, you may even want to put in your answer that the school may want to implement the Rosetta Stone Program, it's been such a huge success at a school I taught ESL. The way the program places real life events with pictures helps students memorize, and it's also hands on so that helps students who are easily distracted when doing boring book and lecture work.

Hope this helps!

Hi Shalina, I am generally trying to help you out because you need to find related resources to support your answers.

Q-1- This question is asking for your understanding about difficulty of learning English as a second language for differenty types of learners. Obviously, students speaking languages with English alphabets will comparatively find it easier to learn English than those with different set of alphabets. I will give you an example: A person who knows how to ride a geared scooter will find it relatively easier to learn how to use gears in a car because he knows how the combination of gears works.

It is other way round for the one who has no idea about gears. So, for this question, you have to base your answer keeping the above reasoning in mind. Moreover, you can compare grammar structure to find complimentary and contrasting factors.

Q-2-- 1. Admit (like me) that you are a second language speaker.

2. Discuss the difficult words. Ask students if they knew any of those words and if they knew any, then it will give them sense of importance.

3. Discuss how you tried to learn these words i.e. discuss learning strategies.

4. If those words are too difficult then try to use the easier ones if it helps.

5. you can ask students to keep a record of synonyms of these difficult words. it helps them to know different words of same meaning but to be used in different contexts.
