There were some schools that graded E for Excellent, VG for Very Good, G for Good, F for Fair and U for Unacceptable. That caused the confusion, so E was omitted when the A-F grading system was implemented.

I just see it as A (highest) and D (lowest) with F standing for Fail (a clear fail - i.e. plagiarism, an unattempted exercise, etc.)

what happend was tht smart kids told their gullibl rents tht e = excellence,kids get stupid and teachers figure out their lil plan.
