Hi, is there a site where I can upload files word/powerpoint where others can go onto and download them for free? I dont want the people downloading to be able to change these files.

Basically am a teacher, want students to be able to access revision notes but not mess around with them and change them hence ruining it for the others!

thanks

See if moodle or webct are available in your area. Those are the two things that my university classes used, and moodle is what we use in elementary schools.

To stop students messing about with your docs you will need to convert them to PDFs. If you don't have the software to do this, look for CutePDF - it should be free and it works well.

There are free places to upload and share PDFs. If you only need the PDFs to be up and online for a few days, there is http://freepdfhosting.com/ For longer there is Google's free service: http://docs.google.com/

However, if you are going to do a lot of this kind of thing, why not set up your own website? It will open up other opportunities for innovative projects online. It isn't difficult. You just need a domain name, a hosting account and a simple Content Management System. You would then upload the docs yourself using a very simple bit of software called an FTP programme (Filezilla is good and its free). For more advice, contact the Web Design Cottage.

I'm not sure about power point, but if you convert your word files to pdf, you can put them in a shared file on your network. The students can't edit them then.

it's called a learning platform and most UK schools and colleges have one set up
