The separation of church and state was clearly intended to keep the state out of the church not the church out of the state.

We wonder in amazement at how our children could blatantly deny authority but we have an authority crisis in our country:

Parental Authority
Marital Authority
Political Authority
Academic Authority
Ecclesiastical Authority

Leading Cultural Indicators (since 1963)

560% Increase in violent crime
400% Increase in illegitimate births
400% Increase in the divorce rate
300% Increase in single-parent homes
200% Increase in teenage suicides
75% Drop in SAT scores --Heritage foundation (1993)

Divorce rates, breakup of family units, acceptance of homosexuality, teenage pregnancies, murder of inconvenient babies, crime rate, and corrupt politicians have all skyrocketed off the charts since 1963! Why? What happened in 1963? Up until 1963, in all of these statistics, we were improving so what happened? In 1963 we outlawed the Bible from our schools.

"It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible." --George Washington

"I believe the Bible is the best gift God ever gave to man. All the good from the Savior of the world is communicated to us through this book." --Abe Lincoln

For some years now I have read through the Bible twice every year. If you picture the Bible to be a mighty tree and every word a little branch, I have shaken every one of these branches because I wanted to know what it was and what it meant." --Martin Luther

"The Bible is worth all other books which have ever been printed." --Patrick Henry

"I have always said that a studious perusal of the sacred volume will make better citizens, better fathers, and better husbands." --Thomas Jefferson.

"So great is my veneration for the Bible that the earlier my children begin to read it the more confident will be my hope that they will prove useful citizens of their country and respectable members of society. I have for many years made it a practice to read through the Bible once every year." --John Quincy Adams

"If there is anything in my thoughts or style to commend, the credit is due to my parents for instilling in me an early love of the Scriptures." --Daniel Webster

"I am much afraid that schools will prove to be the great gates of hell unless they diligently labor in explaining the Holy Scriptures, engraving them in the hearts of youth. I advise no one to place his child where the scriptures do not reign paramount." --Martin Luther

"When you have read the Bible, you will know it is the word of God, because you have found it the key to your own heart, your own happiness and your own duty." --Woodrow Wilson

"The Bible is a collection of fantastic legends without scientific support." --The Communist Dictionary issued by the Soviet State Publishing

"If there is anything in my thoughts or style to commend, the credit is due to my parents for instilling in me an early love of the Scriptures. If we abide by the principles taught in the Bible, our country will go on prospering and to prosper; but if we and our posterity neglect its instructions and authority, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury all our glory in profound obscurity." --Daniel Webster

"The Bible is the sheet-anchor of our liberties." --U. S. Grant

"That book, sir, is the rock on which our republic rests." --Andrew Jackson

"The Bible is no mere book, but it is a Living Creature, with a power that conquers all that oppose it." --Napoleon

"Bible reading is an education in itself." --Lord Tennyson

I believe most educators and parents want what is best for our children. Why don't we take the advice of the very people we taylor their lessons from.

no we should not teach the bible in schools, in this multi cultural society it's like asking should we teach the koran in schools we should teach right and wrong but not religion personal religious beliefs have no place in education I'm not saying people should not practice if they want to but we should not teach the scriptures as fact. because it's personal Choice

Good question. Sorry there is no popular answer. The Bible can be considered literature and then taught in English classes. Teaching religion is a separate matter. Controversy about religions has caused all of our wars! Scientific research continually rejects the accepted ideas about any and all religions. Religions are important simply as codes of behavior. Investigate each world country and learn what religions are doing for their people.

If the State recognizes a certain religion, then were is the difference between the Church entering the State and vice versa.

I will support the teaching of Creationism along with evolution on one condition: The pastifarian creation theory is taught, as who couldn't deny the glory of the Flying Spaghetti Monster?

Religion effects people of all walks of life and it shapes world events.

I think that all major religions should be taught in the class room. Christian fundamentals and different denominations, Muslim, Judaism, Hindu, and any others that are making the news.

This should be part of all High School Social Studies Classes.
