Do research on American Sign Language. Did you know there's a difference between being deaf and being Deaf? The capital letter indicates the person uses ASL, deaf just means they have some degree of hearing loss. There is a big division in the Deaf community because many believe the first and best language a deaf child should learn is ASL, but the hearing community often tries to force the child to try to learn to speak avoiding sign language altogether. They often can't hear well enough to learn even the basics of speech and then they lack a natural first language and never catch up. Very interesting language issues...

Nestor,

The main issue in language is that it is based in culture. Learn a language and learn how people think. In Spanish, you can not say a bad child, you must say a badly raised child (mal criado). The fault of misbehavior rests on the parents, while in English the fault rests on the child. This is one example of how culture affects language.

The affective filter through which we process language is a issue that demands attention in that it colors the scheme of language.

The status of a language is important. French words in English are in vogue and respected, until recently, Spanish vocabulary was given a lower social status.

Gender and how language interact begs to be understood.

Age factors into when the type of language is used.

Go to www.ask.com and ask about bilingual education and you will get a bundle of variables that would pose interesting research ideas.

Posit the paper based on synthesis, evaluation, and analysis which are the highest forms of thinking.

For synthesis ask the reader to: hypothesize, combine, what if questions, modify, invent, organize, propose, plan, design, develop, imagine, create rearrange, predict, and/or improve on the topic of language.

For evaluation ask the reader to: apprise, recommend, critique, compare, solve, weigh, assess, judge, debate, criticize, rate, decide, argue, consider, relate, and/or select on the topic of language.

For analysis ask the reader to: classify, examine, separate, distinguish, investigate, contrast, subdivide, differentiate, explain, survey and/or infer about language.

Don't bore the reader with regurgitations (sp)of what you have read, make them THINK about language.

Good-luck with your thought-provoking 5 page research paper!! Asi sea....

There are inherent shortcomings in almost every language which are illogical. That is - words are used which should not be used at all. I am referring here to absolutes.... like infinite, permanent, eternal, forever , never etc.

The human mind cannot possibly grasp the connotations or actual meaning of same. Absolutes are self-annihilating, self-destruct. They are dead issues. In a universe which is very dynamic and ever evolving, nothing ever stands still or is in a static condition. Absolute expressions in that sense become static. Anything static cannot be observed or comprehended.

Suppose all humans become saints. That would mean that religions have outlived their usefulness and then have ceased to exist. So - eternal heaven which was the goal also ceased to exist because of the missing "counterpoint. It takes two to tangle......"One" cannot tangle with itself. IT follows that tangle then ceased to exist also..... This is a tricky issue :)

there's a place for acceptable English, and there's a place for conversational English. Resumes, essays, letters, manuscripts...those would desire to be finished to the author's ideal grammatical ability. yet subjects like texting and facebook, i do no longer care different than that's an extremely dreadful mistake, like "their" somewhat of "they are." i think of of, that's surprising to surprising somebody the area the writing concerns; in any different case, enable people write how they write, communicate how they positioned across, etc. blunders concern me optimal in inventive writing training. BQ1: Misuse of contractions, or mistaking a contraction as yet yet another be wakeful. they are, their. you're, your. that's, its. Even on facebook, i detect it annoying to tolerate. and that i'm getting very aggravated jointly as the priority and verb/s do no longer agree. BQ2: My roommate and that i invented the be wakeful "analogyze" as in "to narrate 2 probably-unrelated subjects, hoping that one will make sparkling distinctive." we must be exceptionally daft now and back (particularly me), and it grew to alter into now person-friendly for one people to pass on a tangent approximately how heat lava hardens jointly because it hits water, so jointly as you're taking the molten gummy bears we microwaved on a plate and attempt to rinse them off, they are going to actual solidify and be better sturdy to freshen up. as right this moment as we caught the be wakeful and definition on our refrigerator, yet yet another pupil reported that "analogize" grew to alter into already a be wakeful. i do no longer care. My be wakeful is larger powerful. BQ3: Defenestration. The act of throwing somebody out of a window. My properly-well-known German be wakeful is Krankenpfleger. A male nurse. My properly-well-known Spanish be wakeful is mijo. i'm uncertain why, yet i like that "my son" finally morphed into one be wakeful. BQ4: i got here upon what "defenestration" meant mutually as enjoying image-telephone. no longer grammar-superb, yet regardless of the undeniable fact that hilarious. BQ5: utilising the plural pronoun to describe somebody that's neither male nor woman, even if it relates back to a singular noun -- i.e."somebody forgot their e book." i think of of the grammar police indoors the united kingdom desperate that as right this moment because of the fact the intercourse isn't ideal, the masculine would want for use. i income from "he/she" in papers even though it sounds humorous. i income from the plural jointly as i'm speaking, texting. that's what comes for specific to me.
